What does "joint of meat" signify in the above statements?

1 Answer(s)

A joint is where bones join together. So originally a joint of meat was a chunk of meat with a bone in with a join eg a leg. But now people seem to be using it for any large piece of meat.

Join is when people join to meet each other. A joint in town is a pub where people meet other people. But now used for any disreputable drinking hole.
